Types of Terminals:

Container Terminal:

The container terminal has the capacity to handle 250 000 TEUS per annum and the average turnaround time is approximately 12 to 15 hours. Furthermore, containers secure a guaranteed three-day clearance. The services include loading and unloading; stacking and de-stacking containers; reefer connections and monitoring; and the conveyance of the containers between the stack and the vessel.

Break Bulk Terminal:

The Port of Walvis Bay has two dedicated bulk terminals, which are both operated privately. The Walvis Bay Bulk Terminal (Pty) Ltd is designed as a multi-product facility, whereas, the Walvis Bay Salt Refiners Terminal is used for salt exports only. Both terminals can handle bulk cargoes at 500t per hour. The dry bulk terminal is privately run by Gindrod Terminals. The Walvis Bay Bulk Terminal (WBBT) is well positioned to service the SADC region via the Walvis Bay Corridors. The terminal currently handles metal ores and concentrates such as lead, zinc, copper, manganese and coal.

Stevedoring Services:

Stevedoring are labour-intensive and labour is divided between the private stevedoring companies at the Port of Walvis Bay and thus ensures the fast, smooth turnaround vessels with minimum delays. Stevedoring offers services such as the handling of general cargo, transit cargo and project cargo; the handling of containers; the packing of containers; the handling of bulk commodities; the loading/discharging/transshipping of frozen fish and perishable cargo; the handling of provisions and stores.
