The Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) and the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at advancing health and wellness within Namibia’s transport and logistics industry while strengthening the country’s voluntary blood donation programme.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to saving lives, promoting preventative healthcare and fostering a culture of social responsibility across one of Namibia’s most critical economic industries. By combining the WBCG’s extensive transport and logistics network with NamBTS’s expertise in blood collection and donor mobilisation, the collaboration will expand awareness campaigns, facilitate blood donation drives, and encourage greater participation in voluntary blood donation among transport professionals, industry stakeholders, and the broader public.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) represents far more than a formal agreement, it is a shared commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of Namibia’s Corridor Heroes: the truck drivers who keep supply chains moving, connect regional markets, and drive the nation’s economy forward. By placing the wellbeing of these essential workers at the heart of the partnership, the WBCG and NamBTS are reinforcing the belief that a resilient logistics industry begins with a healthy workforce.
For over two decades, the WBCG has championed initiatives that enhance the competitiveness of Namibia’s logistics corridors while recognising that sustainable economic growth is built on healthy, resilient communities. Through its Wellness Services Programme, the WBCG has consistently invested in preventative healthcare for truck drivers, transport workers, and corridor communities by providing wellness screenings, awareness campaigns, and wellness interventions along Namibia’s key transport corridors. This partnership with NamBTS builds on that legacy by introducing another life-saving dimension to the WBCG’s wellness agenda.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Edward Shivute, WBCG’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, remarked: “Our corridors connect countries, markets and people. Today, this partnership extends that connectivity to something even more meaningful, the opportunity to save lives. By working alongside NamBTS, we are strengthening our commitment to the health and wellbeing of the transport and logistics community while encouraging every eligible individual to become a regular blood donor. Together, we can create a lasting impact that reaches far beyond our corridors.”
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Israel Chipare, NamBTS’s Chief Executive Officer, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding Namibia’s national blood supply. “Blood is an essential national resource and maintaining a safe, sufficient supply is a core public health priority. This partnership with the Walvis Bay Corridor Group enables us to reach more eligible blood donors within the transport and logistics sector and inspire a culture of regular, voluntary blood donation. Every eligible donor has the potential to make a life-saving difference, and through this collaboration, we are not only strengthening Namibia’s blood reserves but also reinforcing a shared commitment to healthier communities and a more resilient nation.”
Blood remains an irreplaceable resource in healthcare, supporting emergency medical care, trauma treatment, surgeries, maternal healthcare, cancer treatment, and the management of chronic illnesses. Every blood donation has the potential to save multiple lives, making a consistent supply of safe blood essential to Namibia’s healthcare system.
Through this strategic collaboration, the WBCG and NamBTS will jointly:
- Promote voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation across the transport and logistics sector;
- Coordinate blood donation drives at strategic locations and industry events;
- Raise awareness about the ongoing need for safe blood through targeted education and advocacy initiatives;
- Encourage organisations within the transport and logistics value chain to become active partners in supporting national blood donation efforts; and
- Integrate blood donation awareness into WBCG’s existing wellness outreach programmes to maximise community impact.
The partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing national priorities through innovative public-private initiatives. It also reinforces the role of the transport and logistics sector as a catalyst for positive social impact, extending its contribution beyond trade facilitation and economic development to improving public health and strengthening community resilience.
As Namibia continues to position itself as the Logistics Hub of Southern Africa, the WBCG remains committed to building partnerships that deliver lasting value, not only by connecting regional and international markets, but by improving the quality of life of the people who depend on them every day.
