On Thursday, 23 July 2026, the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) participated in the Namibia–Botswana High-Level Business Engagement, hosted by the Namibia High Commission – Botswana in collaboration with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) under the theme, “Unlocking Investment Opportunities in Namibia. The engagement underscored the shared vision of Namibia and Botswana to transform their geographic proximity into a strategic economic advantage by leveraging Namibia’s ports and logistics infrastructure together with Botswana’s resource base to build a resilient, competitive, and connected regional economy.
“In a post shared ahead of the engagement, Her Excellency Elizabeth Kakukuru, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to Botswana, shared that the engagement presented an opportunity to “translate business relationships into tangible trade and investment outcomes that benefit businesses and citizens of both countries.”
Representing the WBCG, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Edward Shivute, presented on Namibia’s ‘Transport, Logistics and Trade Corridors’, highlighting the strategic role of the Walvis Bay Corridors, with particular emphasis on the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, which links Namibia and Botswana and serves as a strategic gateway for regional and international trade. During the engagement, Her Excellency Elizabeth Kakukuru expressed her appreciation to the participating Namibian institutions, including the WBCG, for their continued support and contribution towards unlocking investment opportunities and strengthening Namibia–Botswana economic cooperation. The High Commissioner further announced that the Namibia–Botswana Business Engagement will be hosted on a regular basis to provide a sustained platform for dialogue, strengthen bilateral trade relations, foster strategic partnerships, and create new investment opportunities between the two countries.
The WBCG remains committed to working with public and private industry partners to position the Trans Kalahari Corridor as the preferred trade route for Botswana’s regional and international trade, competitiveness, and regional economic integration.
