JICA expert team supports the Logistics Hub initiative

Posted: 19 Jul 2022

The expert team contracted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is currently in Namibia to provide technical expertise and support to the WBCG in the implementation of the Namibia Logistics Hub Master Plan.

The JICA expert team drafted the Logistics Hub Master Plan from February 2014 to February 2015, which was approved by the Namibian Cabinet in March 2015. Following that, the government requested for an extension of technical assistance for the implementation stage, which is set to end in December 2024.

According to Mr. Gilbert Boois, Projects Manager at WBCG, JICA’s technical assistance has significantly aided in the implementation of Namibia’s Logistics Hub Master Plan. “The value of the team’s contribution to the project cannot be overstated. The industry has benefited greatly from its engagements with the JICA expert team. Their technical advice and input at the Working Group and Steering Committee levels resulted in us making informed decisions on important aspects of the Logistics Hub project,” Mr. Boois stated.

The technical cooperation is structured in such a way that it allows the team occasional month-long visits to Namibia for face-to-face exchanges and virtual engagements from Japan throughout the year. The team will assist and contribute to the various Logistics Hub Working Group and Steering Committee meetings scheduled for July 2022.

The collaboration between WBCG and JICA is noteworthy because it contributes significantly to Namibia realizing its vision of becoming the preferred Logistics Hub for Southern Africa.
